The Beachcomber – Wellfleet

The Beachcomber at Cahoon Hollow Beach in Wellfleet, MA on Cape Cod is by no means fine dining, but it is quintessential Cape Cod at its best!  Something native New Englanders live for all year!

The atmosphere on the beach feels like something out of “Beach Blanket Bingo” – not that I actually saw the whole movie, it was a little before my time!  I have seen snippets of the movie on re-runs though so I have an idea of what it was all about.  The dune down to the beach is very high and there aren’t any stairs so you need to be steady on your feet to go up and down the dune to use the rest room in the restaurant.  At the end of the day climbing back up the dune is well worth the trip for your first Pina Colada, Goombay Smash, beer – or whatever summer drink you crave after a day sunning yourself on the beach or surfing the waves!  The food is actually good too!  They have an incredible raw bar out in the open air bar area overlooking the ocean and a variety of salads, sandwiches, roll-ups and seafood platters.  I recently had the panko crusted haddock and it was absolutely delicious!

Going to the Beachcomber is a must at least once a summer!  Unfortunately now I have the fall, LONG winter, and spring ahead of me before being able to experience it again…
